Nintendo Wii
Necessary Items
- Nintendo Wii Console
- Broadband Internet Connection
- DJ Hero game software
Connecting to Wii Online
The Wii console must be able to access your high-speed (broadband) connection. This can be accomplished in one of two ways:
Connecting to a wireless router (recommended)
- On the Wii console's main menu, click on the 'Wii button' in the lower left corner
- This will take you to the settings screen. On this screen, click on 'Wii Settings'
- In the 'Wii System Settings', click on the blue arrow on the right to reach the second screen of options. On this screen, click the 'Internet' button
- Select 'Connection Settings'
- Select an open connection, indicated by the name 'None'
- Select 'Wireless Connection'
- Select 'Search for an Access Point'
- At this point, the Wii console will search for any identifiable Access Points nearby. Once this search as completed, you will be direct to choose the Access Point that you wish to connect to, as shown. Click 'OK' to display the list of available Access Points
- Select your Access Point from the list of available Access Points
If your connection appears as a closed padlock, then the Access Point requires a security code or passphrase. The security code or passphrase can usually be found on the security tab of your wireless router settings
If your connection signal appears yellow or red, the stability or strength of the connection is not optimal. If possible, remove any obstacles between the Wii console and the Access Point. Changing the channel on your router to channel 1 or channel 11 can sometimes help with signal stability and strength - Click 'Save' followed by 'OK' to save your connection settings...
- ...and select OK again to start an automatic connection test
If the test succeeds, Internet Setup is complete and your Wii console is wirelessly connected!
Connecting to a wired access port using a Wii LAN Adapter
If you have a wired router, the Wii LAN Adapter (sold separately) can be used to enable an ethernet connection from your wired router to the USB ports on the Wii console.
Installing the Wii LAN Adapter
- First make sure you have an Ethernet cable connected directly from your broadband modem or wired router. If you are using your modem, you will need to temporarily unplug the cable going to your computer when you wish to connect your Wii console online. Please note that you cannot connect the Wii LAN Adapter directly to a computer, in most cases. While some DSL modems may be compatible, many are not. Using a router is recommended
- With the power turned off on the Wii console, insert the Wii LAN Adapter into the USB port on the back of the Wii console
- Connect an ethernet cord from your wired modem or broadband router to the ethernet port on the Wii LAN Adapter
- Turn on the Wii console and follow the steps below to configure the internet connection settings
Configuring the Internet Connection for the Wii LAN Adapter
- On the Wii console's main menu, click on the 'Wii button' in the lower left corner
- This will take you to the settings screen. On this screen, click on 'Wii Settings'
- In the Wii System Settings, click on the blue arrow on the right to reach the second screen of options. On this screen, click the 'Internet' button
- Select 'Connection Settings'
- Select an empty connection slot indicated by the name 'None'
- Select 'Wired Connection'
- Click OK on the next screen. At this point your console will attempt to make a connection with your wired router
If the test succeeds, you have completed Internet Setup and your Wii console is connected.
