Peripherals
Where is the headset jack?
On the Xbox 360 version there is a mini headset jack located next to the sync button under
the flip down cover. Only the newer Xbox 360 headsets will work. The older headsets with the
plastic attachment around the plug will not work. There is no headphone jack on the Wii or
PS3 peripherals.
What if you're left handed?
To lefty flip the DJ HeroTM Turntable Controller, remove the mixer / crossfader portion of the
deck by switching the release catch on the underside of the peripheral to the unlocked
position, then carefully detach the platter / turntable section. Remove the cover panel from
the edge of the mixer and reattach the turntable to the opposite side. Note: The DJ HeroTM
Turntable Controller supports the turntable being connected to the left OR right hand side of
the Mixer ONLY.
Can I use a second turntable with the mixer?
No you cannot. The DJ HeroTM Turntable Controller supports the turntable being connected to
the left OR right hand side of the Mixer ONLY.
The buttons on the platter lose functionality, what’s causing it?
Try the following:
- Make sure that the platter / turntable section of the peripheral is securely connected to the mixer part. Try unlocking and then removing the platter from the mixer. Reconnect it ensuring that the locking lever is completely in the locked position.
- Verify that your DJ HeroTM Turntable Controller is connected to the console, with the appropriate connectivity lights on both console and peripheral.
- (applies to PlayStation2 and PlayStation3 users only) - Ensure that the wireless receiver dongle is correctly inserted into USB port 1 on the front of the console .
- (applies to Wii users only) - Ensure the Wii remote is properly inserted into the deck and that the batteries are in good working order.
- If the DJ HeroTM Turntable Controller is not syncing properly then do the following: Move or turn off anything near the console that uses a wireless transmitter (this includes cordless phones and other console wireless controllers that aren’t in use). If your console is kept inside an entertainment centre cabinet, please remove it and try to sync the DJ HeroTM Turntable Controller again.
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting the wireless receiver
- Try changing the batteries in the DJ HeroTM Turntable Controller.

After updating my PlayStation3 firmware to version 2.80, none of my instruments will work in game.
The 2.80 firmware update causes the DJ HeroTM Turntable Controller and previously
recognised guitar or microphone peripherals to connect to the PlayStation3 with a new,
unrecognised controller number. As a result, DJ Hero will not recognize these peripherals at
launch. To remedy this you will need to change the controller assignment in the PlayStation3
XMB system menu. While the game is running you will need to do the following:
- Press and Hold PS button on the controller to be reassigned.
- Highlight “Controller Settings” and press X
- Highlight “Reassign the Controller” and press X
- Press up or down to change the assigned controller number. Each controller should be a different number and be set to 1, 2, 3, or 4.
- Press X to confirm number selection.
- Press O to return to the previous menu.
- Press O to return to the game.
If you want to set the controller assignment before launching the game then go to Settings- >Accessory Settings->Reassign Controllers. From here you will be able to change the controller number. If you are using a microphone make sure to connect a standard PS3 controller before launching the game in order to change the settings.
The crossfader on my turntable acts like it's in the left or right position when it's centered. How can I
fix this?
This can happen depending on how fast you move the slider. If you move the slider to the left
or right too fast then it will activate sooner than it should. This is normal since as the game
gets harder you will need to operate the crossfader faster and more often. As a result the
game allows for less accuracy with the crossfader on harder songs and difficulty levels
The platter on my DJ HeroTM Turntable Controller has become squeaky/wobbly. Is there any way to
repair this?
If the turntable moves unevenly, makes excessive noise while moving, or only moves part of
the way then you will need to have the whole unit replaced.

Sometimes when doing single button taps it seems to activate twice. Why is this happening?
Try disconnecting and reconnecting the DJ HeroTM Turntable Controller to your console.
Replacing your batteries may also help alleviate the problem.
Which guitar peripherals will work with DJ Hero?
DJ Hero is compatible with the majority of Rock Band and Guitar Hero guitar peripherals
with the exception of Rock Band 1 and Rock Band 2 guitars on the Wii.
Can you buy an additional DJ HeroTM Turntable Controller?
Currently you must buy a DJ Hero bundle and cannot buy a deck separately.
What is the other USB-like connector for?

Gameplay
ow many mixes are in the game?
103 songs mixed into 93 original mashups. (Setlist link: http://www.djhero.com/music )
How do you earn a rewind?
You can earn a rewind by hitting a long note streak. These vary for each difficulty as follows :
Expert – 60, Hard – 50, Medium – 40, Easy – 30, Beginner – 20
How far does a rewind take you back through the mix?
A short rewind will spin you back 4 bars, a long rewind will spin you 8 bars of replay.
Can you play drums in DJ Hero?
No you cannot play drums in DJ Hero.
Is there a practice mode?
There is no practice mode.
Why can’t I rewind during a Guitar and DJ track?
The Rewind is disabled for multiplayer options. Rewinds can be used in single player DJ
gameplay only.
How do I activate Party Play mode?
At anytime during the mix, simply hold down the Euphoria button for roughly 5 seconds and
Party Play will begin. You can still hit samples (red button) and use the effects dial whenever
you want but the game will be doing everything else. Also, remember that you can not use
Party Play to earn stars, Achievements or Trophies.
How do I deactivate Party Play?
Simply press the Euphoria button when you want to stop Party Play and the game will return
to normal gameplay.
I’ve done really poorly on some songs but I’m not failing; what’s going on?
We really wanted to put together a game that anyone could pick up and have fun with.
Having no failure in the game also really helps you work through those tougher songs on
Hard / Expert without getting too frustrated.
Do I have to keep my finger pressed down throughout the entire duration of a plinth/scratch?
On scratch plinths, as long as you hit every scratch you can either keep your finger held down
throughout the plinth or remove your finger for each scratch. Your multiplier will not be lost
and your score will be the same for either way.
Can I just listen to the music without playing the game?
Yes! Hold the Euphoria Button for a few seconds to activate Party Play: the Effects Dial and
Freestyle Samples will remain active while the mix takes care of itself! Hot euphoria again to
deactivate and regain control of the mix... just don’t expect to be scored at the end!
Why can’t I rewind while playing Local DJ vs DJ?
Rewind functionality is disabled from Local DJ vs. DJ gameplay. Rewinds are only designed for
single player DJ gameplay.
Why can’t I play all setlists with a guitar controller?
There are two setlists and one guitar Quicklist designed for guitar play. If you only have a
guitar controller connected, the DJ track will auto-play for the tracks. If a DJ HeroTM Turntable
Controller is connected the guitar track will be auto-played.
I completed the last setlist ‘The Vinyl Cut’ and no credits appear. Is there something else to do in the
game?
Since you can complete this setlist before another one, there is no reason to show the credit
specifically after this setlist. However, you can view the credits them from the options menu.
Is there a song editor?
There is no song editor in DJ Hero but there are a few ways to add your own flavour to the
mix; During Effects Zones one or more of the audio streams can be manipulated with the
Effects Dial. During these zones, turn the Effects Dial left or right to add some personal style
to the mix and double your multiplier. During Freestyle Sample Zones, trigger the red stream
to add your own samples from the sample packs selectable in the character customisation
screen.
Is there a character editor?
In DJ Hero there are 10 unique characters and 6 real DJs to choose from. There are
unlockable outfits, headphones and decks available as a reward for the persistent player;
however, there is no bespoke character editor in DJ Hero.
Why is the audio out of sync with the gems?
Some TVs don’t like DJs. Stick it to the man by recalibrating the audio visual lag via the
options menu, accessible from any screen in the main menu by pressing the BACK button.
Why don’t I get any stars while playing with only a guitar?
You are only awarded stars for completing mixes with a DJ HeroTM Turntable Controller.

Why can’t I pause while playing Online?
Pause functionality is disabled within Online gameplay. Pausing affects the song times and
would cause the host and client to lose sync from one another as both host and client are
playing the same exact track.
I completed a setlist and the number of new characters unlocked is wrong. It says that I unlocked
two but I only see one in the customization screen.
The quantity of new items shown at the end of the setlist include the character appearing as
a DJ in guitar mode too, this is why the number is twice as big.
Why didn’t my scores post to the Leaderboards?
Be sure that cheats are not enabled as these will prevent scores from posting to the
Leaderboards. Additionally, if Party Play was activated at any time during a mix that score
will not be posted. Scores achieved while not signed into a profile do not post to the
Leaderboards.
